Are you spending almost all your time working? If you are, you might begin to notice that you’re not achieving as much as you used to. Consider taking some time out of your day to refocus and refresh yourself. This is not time-wasting .... this is essential. If you want to perform at the top of your game, being productive, re-energised, re-inspired, and having fun (yes, fun!) in your business - it’s absolutely critical. You can’t just keep on using your energy without replenishing it. Something has to give – and it’s usually your enthusiasm and vitality – your ability to be up to the line ready to take advantage of the opportunities that come your way. It’s vital you refuel your energy levels – and that means taking time out. Here’s a few quick tips:
As an added bonus, if your energy is up to speed, you might actually find you enjoy what you do. This could make a difference in whether people want to do business with you or not. No one, particularly customers, wants to be around a burnt-out and despondent business owner. They’d much rather do business with someone who’s turned-on, loves their business and enjoys what they do.
KP!s - Keeping your eyes on the right thing What KPIs (key performance indicators) do you have your eyes on in your business? KPIs are vital to judge the success of your business on a daily, weekly or monthly basis (dependent on the size of your business). But it’s essential you’ve got your eyes on the right ones. There’s a famous but fatal 1972 civil aviation incident where the crew of an Eastern Airlines Lockheed L-1011 plane crashed when the crew were preoccupied by a burnt out light bulb on the landing gear whilst ignoring the altitude dial. The result? 101 passengers dead due to the pilot crew having not kept a vigilant eye on the right instruments. One tough lesson that is now taught in aviation schools across the world. So what about your business? Are you looking at the right dials (KPIs)? Are you keeping your eyes on the stuff that really makes the difference to the success, or otherwise, of YOUR business? For example:
The list goes on. Different industry sectors require different KPIs. What’s important is that you set and keep an eye on the dials that really matter. Without this you and your business are flying blind.
